7th December 2005

Recruit Gunaraj is finally passing out! The day when boys transform to become men or at least that's what it has been deemed as.

Got all ready to meet Guna's mum at Admiralty MRT around 2 pm so that we could take a cab down to his camp in Mandai and reach on time for the ceremony which will take place at 4pm. Ahhh, those of you who realize that the distance btw Admiralty and Mandai is only 10 min away by cab would wonder why we were leaving at 2 when the ceremony only commences at 4 but you see, Guna's mum was really 'kanchiong' cos her only son was passing out and she wanted to make sure she got the best seats so that she could see him perform (he was in the performance squad and one of the top 10 recruits). And so we left at 2pm sharp, together with his aunt and little cousin Rooben. When we got there, we saw Jeeva, Giri and Dhinesh, all of Guna's friends who came to watch him as well.

We reached the camp at 2:15 mind you and spent the next hour and a half walking around the camp, sight seeing and the weather certainly didn't make it any better. Bumped into Inder and Ramesh, who happened to be Guna's sergeant. Saw Menaka there too, whose boyfriend happened to be Guna's platoon mate and was passing out as well. What a small world!

The ceremony was quite interesting for someone who doesn't have the slightest clue (like me) as to what NS was all about or what their training consisted of. It's not that bad after all and at some point of time when the colonel was giving his farewell speech to the NS men, I felt nostalgic for Guna. Partings are always hard, no matter what the circumstances and I think Guna wasn't really that ecstatic leaving his buddies after the grueling yet memorable 2 months.

The rest of his friends will return back to the same camp after 1 week of block leave while he has to report to the Air-Force School the very next day to start on his new job. Well, those are some of the disadvantages of signing on and being a regular, but then again it's what men do. Haha! Air Force look out for Mister Gunaraj!

The whole ceremony ended at 6pm and we headed back to his place, where he got changed and went out for dinner with his family. By the time I left, it was almost 8pm and I was rushing to my aunt's place for it was Keagan's 5th birthday that day and I couldn't miss it for the world. Made it there by 8:30pm and what came after that was obviously more fun!

After all the food, chit-chat, cake cutting it was time to leave. Uncle dropped both Deepa and me off at our place and all I remember after that was dreamland. Hee!

The day ended with a new beginning for 2 different individuals - Guna & Keagan. Cheers!
