5th December 2005

As I was on my way back home from uncle's house on Sunday evening, Sree gave me a call to inform me about the journalism seminar held in Swissotel d' Stamford the very next day.
So I got up early and made my way down to Cityhall MRT to meet Vicky (since I had made plans with her initially) and got down to Swissotel for the seminar.

A lot of misconceptions about journalism were cleared that morning and something inside of me, believes even more so now, that I, after all could be cut off for writing. The editor-in-chief of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), the Sub-Editor and a few interns over at SPH News center spoke about their work experiences and what exactly is required from a journalist and I certainly gained a lot of valuable insights from the talk.

The main objective of the seminar was actually to take in students who have completed their 'A' levels and ask them to apply for a scholarship through SPH. I don't even know if I'd be eligible but I'm still going to go ahead and send in my application. My mind is set - I will strive to become a journalist and then escalate from there, to say, even an editor-in-chief. Whoever said you weren't allowed to dream?

The seminar ended in about 2 hours and we had great food that followed. Hah! Vicky and I definitely saved on breakfast!

P/S: Sree, I'd really like to thank you for calling me up to inform me about the seminar. The call certainly touched my heart and even if I don't become a journalist one day, I'll know that at least there were people who believed enough in me to think that I could have made it. You sounded even more enthusiastic than I was, you messaged all the details to my phone and you wished me luck. What more do I need, than friends like you?

And Vicky, thank you so very much for waking up early when u could have slept away, to follow me down for the seminar. It really meant a lot. Also, thank you for sitting by my side and telling me that I had all the qualities of a journalist when they mentioned what it takes to be one. Thank you for making me believe in myself and as I always say - you are an angel in disguise and I love you many, many!
